It’s almost that time of year.
Time for resolutions, goals, to-do lists, bucket lists and whatever else you create to become a “better you” in the coming year.
Personally, I have never kept a New Year’s Resolution. Ever.
I still have to-do lists that don’t have check marks next to them – from last year.
I gave up giving up things for Lent because I couldn’t follow through.
You know what goals I am talking about. We all have them:
- Lose weight
- Get organized
- Spend less, save more
- Join a gym and get fit
- Eat healthier
- Drink less
- Volunteer more
- Find a new hobby
- Do yoga
And so on and so forth.
If I was lucky, I could follow through on one or more of these for maybe a month. Tops.
So, eventually, I just stopped making commitments to things at which I would inevitably fail. And then I felt like more of a failure. What was wrong with me? Everyone else seemed to have it together.
Why didn’t I?
I began to soul search. Clearly there was something I was missing.
It wasn’t until I came across the book, The Desire Map, by Danielle LaPorte, that I realized I wasn’t alone with my failed attempts at resolutions, goals and to-do lists. Something she said really hit home: “You’re not chasing the goal. You’re chasing the feelings that you hope attaining these goals will give you.”
Bingo.
We deceive ourselves into thinking certain things will bring us happiness.
I had been doing it wrong all this time. My goals weren’t aligned with my feelings. No wonder I failed.
As luck would have it, Danielle has created an entire workshop solely dedicated to those who are craving a new way to make things happen in their lives. How cool is that? And, I get to be the first facilitator in Columbus, Ohio, to teach her magic.
Join me to discover your core desired feelings and how to use them to create goals with soul. I promise this will change your life. It did mine.
